Four square paper game
It keeps the Judge engaged in the game, they also have to think about the rules of the game which helps reinforce the rules. If the Judge is not paying attention and can not help out with the call, they would go to the end of line at which point the players would make the call or rock paper scissors. Ben, a million thanks for all you do. My goal this summer was to up my PE teaching skills and your website AND podcasts have been sooooo helpful. Thank you! Exact perfect instructions that I needed.
Thank you fellow teacher! Fantastic, Maybe talking about nutrition and hygiene would be spot on. Thanks for sharing. So, i have a question. While playing four square can you hit the ball in the air if the someone passed it to you or do you have to let it bounce one time before hitting? And you can look our website about proxy.
I am a first year PE teacher, and although I am still in survival mode, I am beginning to figure things out thanks to all the PE Specialist resources! I see my PE classes 4 days a week but for only 30 min, so introducing new things can get pretty frustrating for all of us. All kids were lacking in skills, but by our 4th day of attempting it, we finally had a fun day playing the game! It gave me lots of ideas on how to better implement units into my week and how long to make units last.
Thank you again for all the helpful tips and information! First year is survival mode for sure, just stick in there and it will get better and better each year as your kids have had Quality Instruction for a longer amount of time. Bring the corners in again exactly to the center. Smooth out each crease carefully, pressing them firmly. Each of the outside corners should be square and even, not lopsided. Fold the paper again in half, then in quarters, pressing the creases firmly.
Then unfold the last four corners. Hold the paper so that the single layer folds are up and write a number on each. Unfold the flaps again so now the paper is back to Step 3. Now write a number on each of the eight outer-corner halves.
Turn the paper over and write a little action on the back of each of the eight outer halves you just numbered. They can be anything, like "smile" to "you are cute" to "give me a kiss" -- whatever the occasion calls for. Now fold the whole thing back so that you are back at Step 4 before the writing. Slide four fingers under the loose flaps and bring the corners in to the center. You can also play with 2 or 3 players by adjusting the rules for two square or three square variations.
A properly inflated four square ball. This is essentially a rubber playground ball. I found an excellent listing of four square balls on Amazon. I have used the Mikasa brand, but there are a number of other companies that make highly rated rubber playground balls. Any decent playground ball will do the trick. The objective of four square is to eliminate other players so that you can advance and hold the server position the highest quadrant.
The game centers around a one-bounce rule. Failure to return the ball results in an ordinal rotation. For example, if a player in the highest quadrant misses the ball they rotate to the lowest quadrant, while the other players advance in the rotation one quadrant higher.
The best four square court setup takes into consideration the types of players. For example, if small children are playing then you would probably do better with a smaller court size.
You will learn the best court size through trial and error. So you can adjust as needed until you get a perfect size. I play with a group of adults and children of mixed ages. I would likely change the size of the court depending on the age and experience level of the players.
A sideline is an optional feature used for extra players to rotate into the game. Each player chooses one of the four quadrants to occupy: A , B , C , or D. The youngest player gets to start as the server.
