Halfway to hawaii game
I got an amenity kit. Not a Polaris amenity kit but a coach one that had a mask. I think the gel pillow is a nice upgrade! Won a Hawaii Lonely Planet guidebook! She has won many bottles of champagne from her trips. Figured they had stopped doing it years ago.
Ofc, once was via the island hopper. Now that would be tough guess! Very cool. I remember flying Western Airlines back in the day and they had the halfway game. I believe the prize was a bottle of champagne. They also dished out mai tais from a smoking dri ice volcano on a berverage cart! Those were the glory daze of flying. Not a super long flight to begin with anyway, so they might not have done it. We had to calculate the time to the nearest second so not as easy to just half the predicted time of arrival.
They took the top 2 winners. Not many played on my flight. I was off by 4 minutes. My husband said that one person was only off by 6 seconds on his flight! Anyways, the gel pillows are awesome! I was off by 53 seconds. Unfortunately someone else was only off by 20 seconds. Our goal was to provide the time we would be halfway to OGG. If you only used the true airspeed, you would find that you arrive very quickly, requiring only This is much closer to the scheduled flight time of , but it is still obviously wrong. When a plane takes off and lands, it clearly is not traveling at its top speed.
It starts and ends at zero. To account for this, I assumed that the first and last 50 nm nm total would be used for ascent and descent. This actually makes a lot of sense because it means about 20 minutes on each end for takeoff and landing, which is roughly my experience when flying.
This would require 4. Add them together and you get 5. Take half of that. Game will be played using honor system due to covid. Good luck with that. And the only reason this game was popular was because it gave passengers something to do.
Plus it stirred up a little competitive spirit. I thought it was kind of a cool idea. I knew we were against a headwind so it was just a luck calculated guess. It was a wonderful trip. Thanks United!
