Printing illustrator files problems

Always restart your computer after a system error occurs to refresh your computer's memory; continuing to work without restarting may compound the problem.

Contact your printer manufacturer to obtain the latest version of the printer driver for your printer. If you are using the latest version of your printer's driver and the problem persists, remove the driver, then reinstall it from the original installation disks or CD-ROM. Also, in case of graphic-based troubleshooting, you can move the artwork into a new file and print a blank document. That is, if it's selected, then deselect it; if it's deselected, then select it. Each category of options in the Print dialog box—from General options to Summary options—is organized to guide you through the process of printing your document. To display a set of options, select the set name on the left side of the dialog box. Many of these options are preset by the startup profile you chose when you started your document. If you select the media size as portrait in the Print dialog box, then the landscape artboards automatically rotate to portrait media when printing.

If you are printing artwork from a single artboard or ignored artboards that cannot fit on a single page, you can tile the artwork onto multiple pages. These enables you to match your colours to real printed swatches, rather than trying to eyeball a colour on screen.

Colour is very subjective; you can't really say that the file didn't print 'correctly' unless you've specified particular Pantones or CMYK breakdowns. Screens don't present colours the same way as print, nor are do all screens present colours equally. Trying to make colour choices for print solely by looking at a screen is asking for trouble. With constraints like this how do we know your printer has a color correct workflow. Without one you lose by default. If I was doing any sort of final work for anything I would use a different printer but for personal prints just for my collection I'd rather spend as little as possible.
